A humorist from my native country reminded me of this fun fact in a TkTk (you know…the global circus) video. This is an extract from an article published at that time: “The legislature managed to put Romania on the list of countries with imagination in the field of taxes. In 2010, a bill proposed the introduction of a tax on witchcraft and fortune-telling, a sign that modern society is evolving to such an extent as to reach a maximum level of financial maturity, taking taxation beyond the tangible world.
If, especially in the Middle Ages, individuals suspected of witchcraft were burned at the stake, modern society is more concerned with taxing them, while respecting human rights.
In November 2010, the Senate approved a bill aimed at regulating occult activities and practices.
The initiative proposed including activities such as fortune-telling and magic in the list of liberal professions, and requiring individuals engaged in such activities to hold a practice license and adhere to organizations.
Witches and fortune-tellers would have been thus required to obtain authorization, issue invoices and receipts to clients, and pay taxes on the income earned….The legislative proposal was blocked at the point where witches and fortunetellers could not be taxed because their profession did not exist in the occupational classifications, there was no occupational standard, at least not in 2010….
A dozen witches will head to the Danube to cast spells on the government and to throw a cannonball into the river ‘so that evil befalls them’ government officials, said a witch named Alisia.” Infinite Laughs…lucky me, I am a failed witch and I no longer live in Romania…Infinite Love.
