“Exaltation in negativity” – this is how The Philosopher would call the state of mind depicted by the movie – seemingly, based on the trailer, your interview and the articles. It defines that form of grotesque which is triggered by despair. His thought was that among the many forms of grotesque the one originated in despair is the most unusual and intense. “…And what intensity is deeper and more organic than despair? The grotesque appears only in very negative states, when great anxiety arises from a lack of life; the grotesque is an exaltation in negativity”. I call him The Philosopher of The Despair. He wrote his first book when he was 23 years old, suffering from a severe form of insomnia. Not sure if this whole concept applies to the movie but it feels close to it.
And you, most beloved of earthlings, you didn’t need too many words to iradiate the insidous and possessive energy of the Devilish Lord of the Beach and Ocean and Everything. The Ocean mirrors in your eyes and yours is The Beach. Allow me a frivolous critique: the red robe was too long. Infinite Laughs.
