There were no benches in the Greek Orthodox cathedral. During the hour-to-hour-and-a-half liturgy, people stood, intermittently kneeling on the cold stones. There were throne-like chairs, though – carved from wood with beautiful sculptures, lined along the walls for the elderly – but still, everybody stood. I was irritated and exhausted. I wanted to sneak out from the crowd and claim one of those thrones, but I was caught.
“Can’t you stay still for one hour?”
“Who? Me? A Gemini, still?”
“Mom, couldn’t we switch to Catholics? They have benches.”
“Shhhhh…”
“God is sitting on a throne—why can’t I sit too?”
“Shhhhhhhhh… blasphemy… out!”
“Okaaay…”
I ran out in a frenzy of happiness. Near the church there was a meadow with dandelions and pine trees. God delegated the crowd to His saints and followed me into the field of dandelions.
