Caffe freddo

While you were in Paris last year, I happened to be in Sicily, Taormina. When I read the news about the event I was on a terrace, attempting to order a sugar-free caffe freddo with whipped cream. The waiter seemed intrigued and asked: ‘Signora, we usually prepare caffe freddo with sugar. Since the whipped cream already contains sugar, why do you prefer your caffe freddo without sugar?’ I replied: ‘I enjoy the taste contrast’. He brought the coffee with sugar and whipped cream. After finishing the coffee, about half an hour later I requested: ‘Could you bring me another coffee freddo, please? – This time without sugar’ I added. He brought the sugar-free caffe freddo, appearing slightly offended. After waiting a few minutes I asked for some whipped cream. It was brought by another waiter. Infinite Laughs, Infinite Sorrow.

P.S. The Italian translation for ‘whipped cream’ is ‘panna montata’. Funny and lovely, isn’t it? Infinite Smile.
